Why This Yoga Teacher Of 15 Years Takes Beginner Yoga Classes

Beginner Mind Yoga

i have been practicing yoga for 15 years, and teaching for five, and when i attend a yoga class for my personal practice, it is a level 1 or restorative or gentle yoga class.

for most of my time practicing yoga, i thought that the purpose of the practice was to ascend.  to develop the ability to perform ever more complex asana. to practice more often.  to get sweatier on the mat.  to be able to hold a pose longer.

i had it all wrong.

I loved this article! I can so relate. Recently I attended a “Slow Yoga” class. I’ve been teaching for 11 years and had never done “Slow Yoga”. I didn’t know what it was, thinking maybe this is “Gentle”. A friend and fellow teacher was leading the class so I decided to try it. I really did feel like a beginner. It was heavenly. Really slow! The main focus was on breath and remaining present. It was just the class I needed that day and I plan to share some of this Slow Yoga in my own classes.
